Good, but not as great as the classic...

User Rating: 8.5 | Super Mario World: Super Mario Bros. 4 SNES
Yeah, we all know the gameplay of a 2D sidescrolling Mario adventure- Race through a straight-forward level filled with enemies and traps, collect every single coin you can find, get powerups to keep in your stash for up-coming levels, and reach the end before time runs out. You make it past countless themed worlds (lika underwater, forest, battleship, haunted mansion, and desert) to find the kidnapped Princess Peach while defeating the evil Bowser and his sons and daughter along the way. After finishing up the stages in each world, players must them lead Mario through castles and fortresses littered with countless enemies and traps to reach the main castle in search for the Princess. The sons and the daugter of Bowser that you must face off against at the end of each world make this game stand out amoungst the earlier Mario titles. Each has its own attacks and weakness that players must seek and put into action. If you are deciding to buy an older Mario title with your Wii points, this is the best title available.

Ok, players can play as Mario or his brother Luigi. Each has their own special abilities and whatnot that can make a level seem easy or hard epending on who you are playing as. Luigi can jump higher than Mario, while Mario's shortness alow him to avoid certain obstacles. Also in the game, certain enemies give players special power ups that players can use to transform Mario or Luigi's appeance and use special abilities. Such examples are the cape that allow players to glide, a tonooki suit that allows players to fly, a from costume that allows easy swimming, among the classic mushroom and fire flower. The most notable addition that makes this title stand out among the others is the ability to ride on a Yoshi's back allowing you to swallow and eat certain enemies. But watch out: if you are attacked, Yoshi may run away and leave you in the heat of battle against a tougher enemy!

The only thing lacking in this game is the bad controls. Well, at least for people using Gamecube controllers. To run fast, jump high, and glide, players need the use of a special button that will be used a lot during this game. And that button is the X (or was it Y?) button... Yeah, it's right above the jump button. Sometimes this vary annoying setup interupts gameplay resulting in a death from a messed up jump. Save yourself some lives by buying a Classic Controller.
