A true classic that does the series and the manufacturers justice.

User Rating: 9.7 | Super Mario Bros. Deluxe GBC
Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is an excellent game it features the original 1985 classic Super Mario 1. As well as this it has a few unlockables and a small challenge mode which allows you to revisit any level and see what high score you can get and whether you can collect all 8 red coins.

The gameplay in Mario Bros. Deluxe is what you'd expect from an old mario game, 2d side scrolling jump fest.

As mario you'll have to jump obstacles and enemies as you progress through the 32 levels of play, each level allows for different strategies to be used so you'll likely have a unique style before long.

The levels are as they were in the original NES version varying only in small ways with a few tweaks. They haven't messed with the formula and this game has all the qualities that made the original such a hit.

The storyline of mario bros. deluxe is as it normally is very brief with you having to save the princess, peach. She'll get kidnapped quicker then you can say "mario" and you'll have to set off and progress through the eight worlds until you find her.

The gameplay follows many patterns of different scales. For instance, the enemy turtles can defeat you if they hit you head on, to avoid this you can jump only their back making themr etreat into their shell, while in their shell they can be used as a weapon by kicking it towards another enemy. That's a simple exmaple there are so many more patterns you'll need to manouver around throughout the game.

Another pattern is the way the levels are set out, you'll progress through a series of four levels, the first three being ordinary levels with the fourth being a castle level. The game at this time, while having the same principles, does differ slightly form the other portion of the game.

There are mutliple ways to finish each level, there are also warps, which can help you skip a few worlds and progressing through the game faster. This allows for slightly more depth to the game so if you're a major fan you'll undoubtably find yourself experimenting with ways to finsh level with maximum points or in the quickest time.

The game has catchy music that has been in previous mario games and are truly classics that you'll not soon forget.

The graphics are simple, 2d and not perfectly coloured, this may sound like a drag but it isn't. For a mario game as such you won't need graphics for an excellently entertaining time.

The game can give even great gamers a decent challenge, it even gets to the point of seemign impossible at times, so you're surely not going to get bored with it's level of difficulty.

Overall Mario Bros. Deluxe is an excellent game which has you playing one of gaming's true classics a founder of gaming today, super mario 1 from the SNES. This game hasn't changed much of the original concept, well, veyry little at all, but doesn't need to, the game is an excellent addition to any Mario fans collection as wlel as any Gameboy colour owners collection.

This has to be the best game for the game boy colour and a great addition to any gamer's collection, one of the best games ever released will keep you entertained time and again.
