Mario's 4 great adventures have been made even better.

User Rating: 8.7 | Super Mario Collection SNES
Super Mario All Stars is a collection of the 4 Mario games from the NES. Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 and 3 are here, along with the lost levels, a game which was never released in North America before.

These games all play similarly, but each brought its own innovations to the table. Super Mario Bros. 1 is a simple side scroller, as are the Lost Levels. You have to make your way through various levels and jump on the flag pole at the end.

Super Mario Bros 2 is notable, as jumping on enemies will not kill them. Instead, you have to jup on the and then throw them at another enemy or off a cliff to get rid of the pests.

Super Mario Bros. 3 return to the basic run and jump gameplay. The improvement come between levels. You now have the freedom to move around a map and play the levels in the order you like. Also added are powerups which give Mario more powers than just shooting fireballs.

Each of these games hold up very well, thank in large part to their new, improved presentation.

The level designs in all the games are exactly the same as they were in their original releases, but they don't look the same. Nintendo used the power of the Super Nintendo to completely redo the music and graphics. Gone are the simple blue backgrounds, and in their places are beautiful scenes with water falls, fences and clouds. The music has been remixed, and now sound much more similar to what you'd expect to hear from the Super Nintendo.

Super Mario All Stars is easily the best version of all these games, thanks to their new music and graphics. They are as much fun today as they were 20 years ago, and will surely please any platforming fan.
