Fighting games aren't what they could be...

User Rating: 9.6 | Return of Double Dragon SNES
A lot of old classic games have survived through many years of painful sequels and spinoff versions, but, when you think about Double Dragon, you start to wonder, "it's a game long gone."

Back when SNES was a big hit, Double Dragon was one of the games that reached the top 10 list of my personal favourites.

No matter how many times you played through the amazingly variating stages with it's colorful bosses, it was hard to get enough of the fine taste of Double Dragon. Playing as either Billy or Jimmy, you had your share of fun.

The fighting system that was created for this particular game was, and is (according to me anyway), even today, the most perfectly balanced style a gamer could enjoy. Not only offered the game basic punching & kicking, but blocking enemy punches/kicks รก la Aikido style as well. I pretty much fooled around and just did that the entire time I played. Block & toss, block & punch, or block & kick.

You don't see that kind of innovative fighting controls in modern fighting games. Yeah, Tekken has a certain type of "blocking" defence...But, it's a beat'em up game, you can't compare...Double Dragon is a fighting/adventure/action game.

My personal favourite enemies from Super Double Dragon are the "twin" karate champs, the boxer, and "Steve" the agent lol. Those guys are funny..

And the music? Perfection all the way. Even if the game repeats the punching & kicking process over and over again, you can't get bored when you got some pretty nice tunes playing in the background.

As a final note;

Nothing would bring more joy, than to see a full 3D version Double Dragon
where you run around and beat up bunch of bad guys, and ultimately, the main boss....But that is something I can only dream about, unfortunately...

Game creators these days are mainstreamers, who rather follow the $, than gamers requests..
