Almost a great game...

I first heared of Sudeki in a game informer issue a long time ago and have been looking forward to playing it ever since then, and the time finally came and I rented it. I was very dissapointed...I beat the game the second day I had it, and the overall experience was just as dissapointing as the amount of time you get to play. The story is about as mediocore as it gets. There are two worlds, two sets of the same characters, and two Gods. You are part of the good guys trying to defeat the bad guys. Blah, blah blah. I guess its not that bad of a story if its your first RPG and if this actually is your first RPG, you probably will not want to play many more after this. Okay, I may sound mean but with a game that has a $50 price tag and horrible combat and a short story that isnt anything near great, I have the right to complain. On a good note, the graphics and the music are amazing. I bought the soundtrack and enjoyed it more than the game itself. The graphics are equally amazing, leaving everything feeling so perfect for this style of game. Now the beginning of the game, isnt that bad actually. Alot of potential was used for the explosive beginning but about 1/3 into the game, the story starts to get dull and so does the combat. I guess my biggest complaint with the horrid combat system is the fact that there is no way to escape. I wanted to enjoy the exploring so much because the graphics are amazing and the mellow tones are very relaxing but everytime I found myself enjoying the country side, some strong enemys would appear and get in the way. For no reason, something pops out of the ground, usually thorny bushes or just walls of some sort deicde to get in your way and will not go away until you murder these enemys. Even after the game is over you will have trouble with the enemys and this just ruins the entire exploration process for me. Another complaint I have are the voice overs. The main characters sound pretty well but about nine tenths of the npc's that give you missions or just babble on about useless information sound like they were intentionally trying to sound lame. I guess they didn't pay the voice actors very much. I wanted to like this game, I really did, but the sheer dissapointment in the side quests, voice acting, exploration, combat system, length and story line just ruined the whole thing. This game is worth a rental atleast, I mean its not so bad that you shouldnt spend $6 atleast giving it a try. I will give it credit for not being turn based. I am sorry to all the fans of Final Fantasy type games but turn based it just a horrible way to battle. Dont get me wrong though, the combat in Sudeki surely isnt dull, its one of the funnest parts of the game but when you battle over and over and find yourself trying to explore, the whole thing about not being able to leave until every last enemy is dead is really damn annoying.
