A great game for anyone's SNES collection.

User Rating: 8.9 | Street Racer SNES
Although essentially a clone of Mario Kart, Street Racer does a good job of being a fun experience.

Gameplay

Street Racer plays almost exactly like Mario Kart. One button accelerates, another brakes, and one of the shoulder buttons allows you to do a power slide. The cup mode is also the same - race around several tracks and the player with the most points wins the cup. However, what makes this game stand out from Mario Kart are a couple of games you can play, Kart Soccer and Rumble. Kart Soccer involves you racing around a pitch trying to knock a ball into your opponents goal while they try to do the same, and although it's pretty hard to play it's a lot of fun. Rumble is flawless though - 8 racers battle on a large square platform with no rules and the object of the game is to knock your opponents over the edge. Overall the gameplay aspect of Street Racer is extremely good.

Graphics

Ubi Soft did a nice job of creating colourful characters and detailed race tracks for this game. Four-player mode is a problem though, instead of having the screen split into four squares for each player it's instead split into four rectangles, which, as you can imagine, is a little difficult to race with.

Sound

I'm writing this review from memory, I haven't played Street Racer for quite a long time. While the graphics and gameplay modes are still fresh in my mind the sound and music featured in this game isn't. I do remember each racer coming out with amusing comments, but the music and other sound effects don't stand out much.

Value

I don't consider Street Racer to be a rare game, so hopefully you should be able to pick it up either on somewhere like eBay or a second hand shop for a good price if you're interested in buying it.
