It's no Super Street Fighter II Turbo, but it's still peachy

User Rating: 9.2 | Street Fighter II SNES
Street Fighter. Terrible movie, but great game franchise. Street Fighter 2 is one of the classic fighting games on the SNES console, and the franchise will never be forgotten. Thank's to Jean Claude Van Damme's stellar performance as Guile. SONIC BOOM! Anyway with all jokes aside the VC version of SFII is great. The game made an excellent transition to the VC without losing any of the flash it had on the SNES. There is no arcade fighting game that can compare to SFII, except maybe Mortal Kombat 2, which should get on the VC asap so I can download it. The classic controller, though not as easily accessible as the SNES controller, is great for this game. Pulling off signature moves like Guile's Sonic Boom or Ken & Ryu's uppercuts is easy as can be. Some moves take a little finesse to pull off, but for the most part the classic controller works wonders and makes the game simple.

The graphics are choppy and weak, and I love them. Street Fighter created a fan base with this 2D style, and they were wise to stick with it over the years. Mortal Kombat and Tekken may have looked good in 3D, but they were no match for Street Fighter's style. Not only is 2D less confusing, but it's less distracting as well.

The music in this game is great, and so are the sound effects. You can't understand the voices of the characters most of the time, but who cares? You just care about fighting right! RIGHT!?

The replayability of this game is unquestionable. There are many characters to play as, so even if you beat the game, you still want to go through and beat it again with someone else. In closing, Street Fighter 2 is a great game all around. It's easy, but it's not a walk in the park at the same time. Toward the end of the game the fights get harder, and I guarantee you will not beat M. Bison on your first attempt. Multiplayer adds more value to this title also, because once you beat the game, you know you want to beat the crap out of your friends as well. SF2 is a solid purchase, and it's well worth your while.
