A fun zombie survival experience

User Rating: 9 | State of Decay PC

Zombie games usually are either really good and worth playing or they are incredibly bad. State of Decay is probably one of the better survival games that you might end up playing. What makes State of Decay different compared to other zombie games? It is a little bit like Dayz in a way in terms of going out and gathering supplies, but not as hardcore. State of Decay is a really fun game, but there are a few bugs and issues you might end up running into.

Story 7/10

There isn't much of a story to begin with in State of Decay, but at least there is something you can follow. You start off as Marcus who was camping with his friend Ed and when they return, they return to a world in chaos. A zombie outbreak has been begun and it is your goal to survive. There are also other missions that you will end up following to progress the story, but again there isn't much story to begin with.

Gameplay 9/10

This is where State of Decay shines, your main goal is to survive and to do that you must gather supplies, find survivors, build outposts, move to other homefronts, build facilities, trade, find and meet neighbors who will give you missions and offer supplies. Over time you will need to go out and kill a special infected or save friends who are missing or under attack by hordes. Marcus isn't the only character you can play as you can play with many different survivors each with special traits, stats, and abilities. While you level stats you will eventually gain the ability to gain specialties which will also grant special abilities and traits. You have an entire sandbox map to explore and scavenge for food, medical supplies, materials to build with, ammo, weapons, and fuel. Each random survivor has a chance to die and the death in this game is perma death, you cannot revive your allies and fellow survivors.

Sound and Graphics 8/10

The graphics overall are decent because each of the random survivors have a different graphic and the sound is also ok, but most of the characters will have the same voice with maybe a different tone and pitch. The look and sounds of the game didn't bother me at all.

Replayability 10/10

There is replayability for this game as you could play this game any way you want. Sure the story will remain the same, but the ways you play could be different each time you play. Where you set up base, where you go to look for supplies, and the survivors you end up meeting might be different each time.

Overall the experience is really fun and worth trying out if you are into zombie survival and sandbox games. State of Decay truly is a unique game and there is replayability even after you beat the game. Sure there are bugs and problems, they might fix after a simple exit and reload. State of Decay survived all the way to a 9/10
