Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is a good Star Wars game, and a great combat sim.

I remember playing this game all the time back in the day. It was one of my favorite games on the Nintendo 64. This game combined great Star Wars fighters with fun missions which made it a game worth trying out. Of course that was then and now it may not be worth trying out unless you really like combat simulators and/or Star Wars.

The graphics were pretty average for a N64 game. Back then everything looked good. The ships and the hangar you choose your ship in still looks pretty good. The combat is pretty smooth and is still fun even with the outdated graphics. I never played any of the new rogue squadron games, but I'm betting you'd probably have more fun with those than you would this one because of the fact that the graphics are improved.

The sound was great back in the day. The music sounded similar to the movies, but it didn't have as clean of a sound which is ok. The voice acting I'm pretty sure featured some of the actors and actresses from the movies, but didn't sound that great, but it got the point across with what they said and how they said it. The sound effects sound very similar to the movies too which is a really big help. Each ship sounds pretty much identical to the ships in the movies including how they shoot or fly. Sure the sound is as clean as it could be, but back then it was still great.

The value of this game was great back in the late 90s. I played this game over and over until I got all the gold medals. Now days I'd reccomend renting it if you could find it, or maybe find a friend who still has this game around somewhere.

The gameplay was really simple which was to shoot down as many enemy fighters as you could and to finish the objective that was assigned such as escorting, blowing up a base, or protecting a city etc. There were plenty of environments with plenty of objectives, and they were all different enough to not make this game repetitive. The wide variety of Star Wars ships helps too. There are ten or so ships that could be used throughout the game each one with its own unique abilitlies. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron had the A-Wing, X-Wing, Y-Wing, TIE Interceptor, Snowspeeder, Millenium Falcon, V-Wing which I don't think was in any Star Wars movie, and a few other ships I can't think of right now and some of the ships are unlockables. The missions obviously got hader as the game progressed and can become quite challenging on the last few levels. The story wasn't too interesting as you are Luke Skywalker who has to stop an Imperial invasion and the characters were pretty lame, but the missions were fun and thats all that matters.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was a great combat sim for its time and still is on occaison enjoyable to play, but with its currently outdated graphic and being probably near impossible to find its probably not a big deal if you missed out on it. It still was one of my favorite games on the Nintendo 64.
