A great use of the GCN's power, just not enough variety in gameplay

When I got my GCN at launch this was one of the two games I got with the console along with Luigi’s Mansion, and after a while this game really started to show how shallow it played. I am not saying it is a bad game, just that there is very little to gain from repeatedly playing it.

The graphics on this one were a testament to just how good the GCN could do, it actually managed to look just like the movies, I’ll even admit to getting a bit of motion sickness from the cockpit view at first. Everything is just so well done on this part that it’s easy to just get lost in it.

Onto the sound which is equally as impressive as the graphics since it was the first to use the Dolby Pro Logic II capabilities of the console, and it does to very good affect too, it sounds just like the movies, and for a Star Wars game that’s just as important as how it looks.

Also of noticeable mention is how much they managed to fit onto the disc, there are many DVD style extras in the game including a making of documentary and director commentary that you can listen to over the game itself, which is quite impressive.

Possibly my biggest concern is that the other things were concentrated on more than the gameplay side of things, after a while I found everything got very linier as it would in most shooters, but unlike most great ones this just lacked variety. If you can stick with it there is plenty to unlock though, because the medal requirements are very hard to get later on, if you love Star Wars games this is a great package, but if you don’t you won’t find that great of a game to play here.
