Elite Squadron still offers the same Battlefront goodness we've all seen before with a few changes

I can't even remember the last time I've played a good Star Wars Battlefront game the last game I've enjoyed playing was both Battlefront and Battlefront 2 which were released ten years ago. Looking at the spin-off related titles that were released for the handhelds for both the DS and PSP but most Star Wars games that were released for the PSP got more attention including a mini fan-base on the franchise for the PSP.

Originally it could have been Star Wars Battlefront 3 but Free Radical Design was developing the third game at the time but later got cancelled to be released on PS3, Xbox 360 and possibly on the Nintendo Wii, however there was an Alpha trailer for it including gameplay footage on what the game could have looked it if it went forward. However when you look at the gameplay cutscene they look a little similar to the story plot that was used in Elite Squadron. Its story follows a solider called X2, who was created from the DNA of a Jedi Master. X2 also helped train the clone army and later in the campaign you are given the job of hunting down Jedi carrying Order 66 with his brother X1. The main campaign does look at the events from Episode III all the way up to Episode VI including some events what happened after Episode VI.

Played as a 3rd-person shooter you can combat on foot with job classes with weapon inventory using standard Blaster Rifle to a Sniper Rifle, you can customise your own weapon inventory for your character and what weapons you want to carry. You can also play as a Hero or Villain from the Star Wars franchise if you are playing the game through Conquest battles or Galactic Conquest but will be on timer depending on which side you want to play through as Rebellion, Empire, Republic or CIS. Just like in past games you can capture command posts that are scatted across the level maps, also able to enter capital ships and once the shields are down you can fight the enemy inside on foot of their ships and try to blow their ship up.

Galactic Conquest is played like a turn-based strategy game, using your strategy on supplying more troops on the planet you are based on and invade other planets on the map and pretty much taking over the opponents planet, you'll have the option to join the battle or just watch and see how progress goes, if you need more weapon upgrades or abilities you'll need Credits to purchase the upgrades and turn things around to end the battle quickly. So it feels more like a game of chess when look at this concept nice idea to have but might not appeal to some people out there and would rather just go through a quick battle on campaign on a certain planet through their favourite Star Wars movie.

The loading times are pretty quick during gameplay as you go up through space or try to land on the enemy ship you'll have a mini cutscene appear seeing your ship making a landing nice idea to have in a Star Wars games. However its levels do feel a little small having all three maps on each of the levels having ground, space and command ship. The camera system can be a little fiddly making it difficult to see where you are going especially when it comes to ground combat can make it a little awkward and stiff but this might not bother some gamers out there who are used to playing games on the PSP.

It may have a short single-player campaign but the whole game can still be fun playing through your favourite moments in the Star Wars franchise and is well possibly the only other good Star Wars game there is when it comes to the handheld section and something worth picking before Battlefront is released on next-gen consoles this can be handy to pass the time.
