The best selling Star Wars game of all time and just what the Star Wars videogame world needed!
Star Wars Battlefront is a Star Wars game that is finally a fun for both shooter fans and Star Wars fans alike. The game features run and gun third-person shooter action with the winner of a battle the first team to capture all command posts or deplete the enemies reinforcement count.
In addition to the five unit types, each faction has a variety of different vehicles to choose from. The gameplay is farely balanced with no faction having a major advantage over the other. However, Clone War battles are slightly harder when playing as the Republic due to the CIS special unit the Droideka having unstoppable blasters and a shield which makes it practically invincible while it is on. The most fun battles take place between the Empire and the Rebels in the galactic civil war battles.
The game features a number of different modes, in Instant Action you choose which battles you want to fight and then just play them. There is also a Historical Campaign in which you fight a series of battles based on a timeline of the films.
The final mode is Galactic Conquest where you battle the enemy faction for control of all the planets in galaxy by winning on each battlefield, in this mode you can also unlock bonuses that can be used as you try and conquer the galaxy.
The game is easy to pick up and play and will become very addictive as you battle and fight your way to conquest.
There is also a multiplayer online mode where you battle opponents from around the world. There are around 16 battlefields for you to choose from and all of these are available online. The number of players online differs on whichever platform you choose, the PS2 has only 4 players, the Xbox has 16 players and the PC has 32 players.
The graphics in the game look fairly good with lots of different environments, the Xbox and PC versions have slightly more detailed textures than the PS2 version and also have shadows. The sounds over blaster can be heard in the game along with the John Williams soundtrack in the background.

Overall, Star Wars Battlefront is a very entertaining game that is finally fun for not just Star Wars fans but shooter fans in general, with a longer campaign, more balance units and better graphics on the PS2, this game could get into the high 8s or even 9s rating. But it is still by far the best Star Wars game so far. (2004)
