With its fun multiplayer and neat features, Star Wars Battlefront is solid.

Star Wars Battlefront is probably the best Star Wars game LucasArts and Pandemic studios created and according to the sales it’s also the best selling Star Wars game.

The game is pretty fun and has lots of features that players would enjoy. Playing Battlefront is like owning all the Star Wars action figures and vehicles and using them to play these large epic battles. It’s pretty awesome if you think about it. Someone probably is crazy enough to own them all yet not use them just keep them in their cases.

Well anyway the game is very fun and any fan of team-based shooters would definitely like it.

To start things off the game lets you play four factions in the Star Wars universe, The Empire, The Rebel Alliance, The CIS (Confederacy of Independent Systems). Each faction is unique and has its own troops and vehicles. The controls are easy to master and get used to. You can also customize your controls in the options menu. So if you have any problem with the controls you can always change it.

Battlefront has several modes, single player, multiplayer (online), and split screen. In single player mode you can find historical campaign, galactic conquest, and instant action mode.

The purpose of the game is to capture these command posts scattered in the map. These command posts are used to spawn troops into combat so its’ basically a spawn point. If you lose all your men or your command posts then you lose. Use these command posts for strategy. Some vehicles are movable command posts. Only two factions have these vehicles and they can be used to bring troops where they are needed.

In historical campaign you play the major battles that had occurred in the Star Wars universe, from the trade dispute in Episode One to the fall of the empire in Episode Six. The campaign is really not that hard. All you do is fight battles that are occurring in the planet. After finishing the campaign you can now have mission select. With this you can pick your favorite mission in the campaign.

In Galactic Conquest mode you can again choose your faction and get to choose a campaign. Each campaign has its own sets of planets. Once you’re done choosing the two, you will be brought to a map of the galaxy. The objective of the game is to capture all the planets. Each planet has two battles so to capture one you need to fight twice in the planet. A special thing about Galactic Conquest is that each planet has a special bonus that you can use after capturing it. So let’s say for example that I captured the planet Bespin, and Bespin has the bonus sabotage which I can use to damage the enemy’s vehicles. A pretty cool feature if you ask me.

Another thing in Galactic Conquest is that after a certain number of victories your home planet can then use its’ special ability. Let’s say for example I have won the sufficient amount of victories to use my special ability and that my home planet is Endor. Endor’s ability is the use of the Death Star. Now I can destroy a planet in the map. Pretty cool feature huh.

Instant Action mode is pretty much like stage select. The purpose of this mode is that you can pick a planet or planets and you can battle with the computer.

Another good feature in the game is that you can hear the famous music from Star Wars by John Williams. Each stage has its unique music from the composer. The audio is pretty good and should keep you entertained while in battle.

Time for the multiplayer part of the review. Well basically all the modes in single player are playable in split screen and online. It’s still pretty fun though. Now you can play the historical campaign with a buddy. You can also play galactic conquest with a buddy too. Whether you play co op or fight against each other it’ll be fun. The online mode in the PS2 version is 16 players. So you’ll have fun online fighting or against 15 other people.

Well this wraps up my review I hope you had fun reading. The good thing about the game is that lots of cool features, awesome music, and fun Star Wars action that any fan of the series and team-based shooters would enjoy. The bad is that there some AI problems and that the PS2 version’s online isn’t really that good. The game is still pretty much fun and should definitely be bought for fans of these types of games. So I recommend it.
