It's a slightly melodramatic but pretty fun game.

Compared to more modern RPGs like MegaMan Star Force and the Fable series (Irealize their completely different, but they're still both RPGs), this game is a little outdated. On the other hand, when compared to games of its same time, Star Ocean is a very fun game. The game opens up on some typical teenage dude (except for the blue hair, but hey, everyone has freaky hair in the future) and his hot anime girlfriend and/or best friend (I'm not entirely sure what the relationship is). The story starts with something I'm sure all of us gamers have done, blowing off a date with his girl at the beach to play video games. After a slightly soap opera-ish cut-scene you go to the combat simulator to kick some monster butt (finally cuz it takes for ever to find the place and after a little bit of melodrama to start the game off, you really wanna whip out your plasma sword) and walk around the hotel your staying at and maybe talk to one of the hot anime babes in bikinis on the beach. In all honesty, the story is a little overly dramatic for my tastes, but still bearable. But a much bigger isue for me than a story line that seems somewhat more at home in a Treky-fied version of Degrassi are some of the ridiculously long cut-scenes. If I were playing this game in the middle of the night, I could fall asleep just watching one of these hour-long mini-movies. So it all boils down to this:pros:people who aren't me might like the story, hot anime chicks, good graphics for its time, and a massive game (takes up two discs) cons: close-quarters combat is a little unrefined, sometimes it can be unclear what you need to do next, and I've already mentioned the cutscenes.
