It's a fun short piece of Star fox history that is definitely worth tracking down on the internet.

Well after finishing Star Fox 2 for the super nintendo, I can see why they canceled its release. It was a very good game, that introduced alot of kewl ideas that have been used in the series their-on afterward. Which is why I am glad devoted fans found the leaked but almost completed versions of the game an were able to put the finishing touches on it an complete it for play.

The game has really good 3d graphics for a 2d console that surpass the original star fox in terms of detail and frame-rate.The gameplay is a lot like star fox 1's, except they also added free-roam areas/dogfights instead of it all being on rails. One of the kewlest new things that i wish they kept in the franchise is the robotech-like transforming arwings, while doing land based missions you would walk around in a mech form an hit the select button to transform into the arwing an travel faster. The game also introduced the strategic map setting that star fox command has, a simplified version of it but non the less added a layer of depth to the game. Because you had to choose what enemy's to engage in combat first or else risk an enemy reaching corneria , which is your defense objective. As-well as introducing the partner system that would fly as your wing-mate an i would imagine take over your main pilots slot if you lost the ship ( i wouldn't know since i never died XD). The jets were also unique (another thing that Command has) 3 different arwings.
Fox an falco , Slippy and peppy, and 2 new female characters a poodle and a lynx , had matching arwings with different stats and special weapons.

Despite all these innovations to the franchise, the game is to short, even if you replay it on higher difficulties levels its still really short. I personally finished it in under 5 minutes on the stranded setting which was incredibly easy for a Star Fox veteran like myself. >_< an 60+ dollars for something that is that short is a real rip-off much like Yoshi's Touch & Go. Don't get me wrong though it has good replay value, with 3 difficulties an you can choose to tackle the objectives in any order.
So all-in all if your a star fox fan or a space shooter fan in general, it's worth tracking down a rom for star fox 2. ^_^

Ps. I think it would have been awesome if Nintendo didn't scrap the game because of the up-coming star fox 64 at the time, making star fox 2 twice as long an more varied. It would have been a good benefit to nintendo/star fox fans.
