An amazing game in its field with huge playability and re-playability.

User Rating: 9.5 | SSX Tricky PS2
As one of the early PS2 games it has stood the test of the mix of improved graphics and many extra game modes. This is the only game i genuinely couldn't go and resale at my local store for 50p.

Out of all the SSX games its better than SSX 3 and SSX OT due to the highly immersive character personalities which the first game doesn't exploit in the same way as Tricky does in such a polished way. The nature of each charater means everyone can relate in a player who they would want to be most like.

Tracks and the way they flow into the physics are brilliantly tuned to make sure the control is always with the player, later game make the controls feel just short of a button matching sequence, nursing you though the mountains. When you do this the game looses its insanity and unreality, which is the heart of these impossible possible tricks where spinning a board round your head while doing a triple back-flip.

Multi-player elements of the game are simple. Just race or trick your way to the bottom of a course against a friend. Although maybe not really what you'll find original as far as 2P play goes, it does provide another level difficulty after the NPCs are easily beat.

Less really is more with the empire of SSX. Doing tricks in Tricky really is a learning curve that lasts for ages. From the first 180 to a Full On 1440 Stalefish into an Guillotine off the last jump in Alaska. The other games make it too easy, with one power combo leaving you sorted for the duration of the game.

It feels as if EA spent loads of money telling the programmers to go 'as wild as they could' to create a game that they didn't care wouldn't make any money, then realising they were on a winner spent the spoils of this game making a formulaic copy that would improve with sequals the game. Unfortunately throwing money at something wouldn't make it better.

SSX Tricky is a fantastically re-playable and enthralling snowboarding sim with none to compare. Mad, crazy, polished, masterable. Amazing concept, base more games on Run-DMC songs!
