This should have been epic... instead it gets boring after a while.

Split/Second is one of those games where you see the trailers and think "wow". But the reality is that the only thing holding together this game is the power play. Without it, this game would be worthless.

The game looks quite good. Graphics are just OK for an arcade races. Like the explosions too. The car destruction isn't the best but it's OK.
Sound effects are good and the musical score isn't bad.

The problem is the gameplay. When i first saw this game i said, "man this will be hard". I mean with all the explosions you'd think it would be hard to stay out of harms way. But all the explosions are scripted. So after 3-4 times on one circuit you can learn all the explosions and how they turn out and you can actually fly by the circuit without a problem.
The thing that makes the game hard is the inconsistent AI. Sometimes they are really easy, but other times they get so far ahead you can throw every trick at them and you still can't catch up. This happens mostly in Elite Races. Somehow the AI has much faster cars than you... every time. So the game gets frustrating after a while, and really repetitive.

I say it's worth a rental and if you can enjoy a mediocre arcade racer with big explosions than buy it.
