Spidey's back for another swing through the city. Wait...haven't we swung through the city already? Yup we have. This game's a disappointment. The movie was awesome, yet...the game didn't really deliver that much. Sure it has the movie story in it, but honestly...it's crap.
First off, what were they thinking with the graphics? The cut-scenes look worse than the actual game-play. I was staring at my screen as if I'd seen a ghost...they look like mutated/altered images of a human. Thank god they didn't overload this game with movies. The graphics during game-play are decent. The buildings are just squares with smaller squares colored in as windows. The pedestrians(more like robots that have clones everywhere) are retarded. The cars are like squares that move. BUT, the spiderman module looks awesome! And even though the rest of the graphics suck, the way they made spidey makes up for that, not completely though. The sense of speed as your swinging is a neat effect and adds a good feel for actually swinging through a giant city. The map itself this time is around two times bigger. Although...that just adds more annoying "god I have to swing way over there to start that mission". I know that I shouldn't be saying that, but I have a reason to. The swinging is still fun, but...it's nothing new. Sure they've added some new physics with his swinging but...it's basically the same. And this time you can actually swing on a web that's attached to nothing(thank god this happens rarely). Let's see what else haven't I touched up on...ah yes, combat. Combat in this game is...for the most part, boring. Dodge, and counter. That's the whole combat, rinse and repeat. Yeah there are some new moves...well pretty much all the moves are new. But it's pretty blunt and boring. Now onto the black suit. Now this is my personal favorite part of the game. It's awesome. You become a lot stronger. Basically for like every 3 quick attacks you would regularly do to kill an enemy you now only have to do 1. Plus, who doesn't look good in black? Putting on the black suit is a breeze, but taking it off requires button pressing. But don't worry it's easy. It sucks that you lose the black suit through the last 5 or so missions. But you can get it back after you beat the story missions. Gangs and thugs are back this time around. And in a wide variety too. But with wide variety I mean just different names. Although the enemies are different in different gangs, it's basically the same stuff. This time around the missions aren't so repetitive but it's pretty much just disable the bomb, rescue the hostage, or defeat the thugs in an area. The story this time around is pretty short like last time. But it's pretty fun. Now onto the worst part of the PS2 version of this game. WHAT THE F*** WHERE THEY THINKING WHEN THEY DELETED A BUNCH OF THE KEY ELEMENTS FROM THE PS3 GAME? Oh my god they don't even have scorpion on this game. Plus, the venom fight on this game is stupid. It's just dodge and counter. There's no cool button sequence or anything. And the ending on this game is ridiculous. If you have a PS2 and a PS3, GET THE PS3 VERSION. Don't even have second thoughts about the PS2 version. Now if you only have a PS2 like me, well...this game's worth a shot at renting. Only if you're a true spidey fan should you actually buy this game for "collection" sake. But yeah, just go out and rent it. :)
