surprisingly good!

now, we ALL know that movie-tie-in games are generally (and expectedly) lame and do nothing more to help the movies they promote. fantastic four game blew. iron man is not so great (could have been designed more like the PSP version). simpsons as a side scroller, oh well. etc etc.

even racing game lately have been sub par with what we have seen can be created for the DS. i feel strongly that the only racing game on the DS worth my time is (and probably always will be) mariokart. that game has real replay value and excellent multiplayer.

i've played racers like m&m kart racer, need for speed , homiez (on and on) and have feel like i was playing a GBA advanced game (brutal) instead of a DS game.

so, i was pleasantly surprised when i started to play speed racer. it had a great opening sequence. and the gameplay was easy right from the start. theres a handy tutorial if you are not familiar with speed racer lore and the style of racing it is known for. like kart fu and the various aerial moves you can pull off on the various ramps along the courses. there are players to unlocks, tracks to unlock and moves to attempt to perfect.

basically, this game has a healthy progression, and the graphics look like they actually spent a good time developing. kudos.

so, my basic assessment is.. a movie-tie-in game that is actually enjoyable. wow!

go speed racer!
