For the genre, few games come close to the pure enjoyment STW has to offer.

User Rating: 9 | Spartan: Total Warrior PS2
Aside from the admittedly blocky graphics and passable voice acting, this game owns God of War in every way. Physics feel real and the gameplay is engaging, and the enemy AI is nothing like the sleepy soldiers you face in other battlefield games like Samurai/Dynasty Warriors. If you play this game on easy it might be a button masher, like the reviewer said. But if you play it on normal/hard, you must use every button on the PS2 controller to overcome your enemies. This makes for a thoroughly engaging experience. I like the fact that health and magic resources are limited- you have to try not to get hit if you want to make it through a level. While the presentation might not be as polished as what new gamers might expect, this game offers an old school, challenging experience that might might make you want to chuck your controller from time to time. Just bump up the difficulty and enjoy. On a side note- I bought this at the same time I bought Shadow of Rome, the Onimusha games, God of War and Rygar. This is the only one I still own.

Highly Recommended.
