so you cant get out of the first level without the patches or a cheat.

Theres no info on this game anywhere, regarding anything either key, tech, game related, mission help, virtually nothing.

You finally get the patches running (which has to be copy and pasted after it installs to the wrong directory?) after my 5 reinstall, and i still have crash bugs every 20 mins.

Ship models are not sized correctly and you bounce off other objects frequently, which is unfortunate because you are required to be in hands length of stations and objects you are required to interact with. Many times if you come into contact with an object (or an ally does) you can bug out and be destroyed virtually instantly.

The game progression itself goes from crazy hard, to crazy easy and back again every couple of levels. The mission descriptions as well are appallingly lacking to the point of having no clue what to do frequently. Combining not knowing what to do with having a difficult situation is commonly frustrating, especially since as mentioned, there are no guides and no one has posted any relevant mission data or in game help virtually of any kind, any where.

The storyline is pretty abysmal as well and not worth mentioning, and theres not a whole lot of depth despite the claims. There are really only 5 mission types. All missions are just variations of these. Npcs all act virtually the same as well, they just get faster or hit harder as they level up. Oh i guess when they get high level they spam uber powerful missiles at you that your countermeasures work less and less against too which is not a good time spending all your time dealing with.

the control interface sucks for mouse owners, but joysticks are buggy to noneffective.

I basically keep jumping over tech hurtles constantly, then run into shallow gameplay or lack of information.

I just cant think of a base that this title didnt somehow fubar 'ed up. I suppose they have a decent item list, but 2/3rds of the items in the game are straight junk. Weapons have a few options, but ships feel limited with every race only having 1 or 2 options.

All in all, I kept trying to play this game thinking just around the corner would be something cool, and after a few weeks of banging my head im ready to erase it off the drive and not buy any more space flight sims for another decade or two.

What happened to this genre? These games used to be my favorite....
