A great re-inventing of a classic text-based game that is a classic in its own right...

Space Quest was one of Sierra's great 2D adventure game series before the 2D adventure genre was put out to pasture by the advent of 3D graphics. Space Quest I (VGA) was simply a new take on an old story. In looking at the VGA version of the game one could truely get the sense of just how far technology had come in 5 years, since the original text-driven Space Quest game was released in 1986.

Space Quest VGA had all the elements of Sierra's great point-and-click adventure games. An easy to use interface, beautifully crafted hand drawn backgrounds and of course all of the puzzels and jokes we'd expect to find in a game with "Space Quest" on the box. From a comedic standpoint, however, Space Quest I definately does not lend itself to nearly as many one-liners or slapstick moments that you'd find in the later games.

This is definately one game worth bringing off the shelf and dusting off, if you can get it to work with your current PC that is. While I do love the action packed, 3D graphic treats we get in today's gaming market, there is just something to be said for these classic 2D adventure games.
