Everybody's Super Sonic Racing!!!

User Rating: 10 | Sonic R (Sega PC Collection) PC
This is one of the first PC games I bought, and I am not at all dissapointed with it. I have had it for almost 9 years, and never get tired of playing it!.

The first things which hits you about this game is the music. The vocal by T. J. Davis are simply outstanding...songs have a romantic and/or racing feel to them, and whatever zone you are playing in, the music is somewhat sculptured around that zone. Some of them do take me back to my childhood days...for example songs like 'Can you feel the sunshine?' and 'Diamond in the sky'...but there is also a song called 'Work it out' which awakes one to the harsh realities of the world we live in today...and how to overcome them...

The graphics are not too bad, I have to admit, bearing in mind the era of Sega games was only begining to mould characters in 3D...although the polygon edges for some charecters like Sonic could have been enhanced just a touch...but hey...who notices that when you are running around and enjoying yourself!!!

There is one minor flaw (but again, as this was eraly days for 3d games, it can be forgiven) there are only four stages to initially race, with one unlockable one....but if you look at various other doo-dahs in the game, like time attack, loking for lost balloons, and 2-4 player modes, then there is a lot to consider....but they could have added a few more unlockable things.....which brings me onto the next wonderful thing about this game....

There are more than 6 players to unlock...each with their own abilities (such as speed, road handling, actions, and catch-up time) these can be unlocked by collecting Sonic coins littered throught each stage (execot for the unlockable one) and beating the unlocked character in a single race. And what would a Sonic game be without Chaos Emeralds!!! There is one for each zone (excluding the unlockable one...I know, sad thing...but you will forget about the emeralds themselves when you race this darling!!!) BUT YOU HAVE TO BE THE BEST TO GAIN THESE EMERALDS, OR YOU WILL LOSE OUT!!!

Overall, this is a really nice game for all ages...especailly when you go head to head with friends in multiplayer modes...I have foudn you can play the vocals on the CD in your CD player...which are sure to brighten up a 'down in the dumps' kind of evening....a brilliantly composed game by Sega!!!
