After the release of Sonic Next Gen, I had lost all hope for Sonic. But seeing the old pot-bellied Sonic in the trailer, I went into this game with my fingers crossed that they weren't gonna screw up again. I had absolutely nothing to worry about. In my opinion this is the best Sonic game since Sonic Adventure. The gameplay is split into 3 different eras (Genesis, Dreamcast, Modern). In the Genesis era there is Green Hill, Chemical Plant and Sky Sanctuary zones. In the Dreamcast era there is Speed Highway, City Escape, and...Seaside Hill (huh?). And finally in the modern era there is Crisis City (the one good level from next gen) Rooftop Run and Planet Wisp. There are 2 acts in each stage act 1 is classic sonic and act 2 is modern sonic. The gameplay between modern and classic actually balanced unlike the werehog in Unleashed. The level design is superb as well. Any problems with the levels from there original games were brought to attention for Generations and were fixed making Planet Wisp and Rooftop Run feel like completely new and remastered levels. The story is very dull and simple but it's sonic game...did you really expect anything different? And as usual with Sonic games, the soundtrack is A+ material. So overall this is a great game that any Sonic fan should own.
