For a hand held racer, it's okay I guess.

User Rating: 6 | Sonic Drift GG
Sonic Drift for the Game Gear. Released in Japan in 94, this didn't see a European or American release until it was made as an unlockable title for Sonic Adventure DX on GameCube and PC. It was then also release pre-unlocked on Sonic Mega Collection Plus. This is often regarded as one of the worst Sonic games. I disagree personally, I can see why not many people like it. Personally I find it mildly entertaining.

Sonic Drift is a hand held racer, assumed by many to by Sega's response to Mario Kart on the SNES. There are only six tracks in the game (all named and designed after the levels found in the Mega Drive/Genesis version of Sonic 1), but they have slightly different routes depending on which "Chaos Cup" you pick. Chaos Cup is essentially the difficulty level, if you finish all of them (it takes about 25 minutes) you will get the ending and credits. Your four playable characters are Sonic, Tails, Amy and Robotnik.

Levels are very linear, there is no branching paths anywhere. To keep your speed up you have to drift round corners by mashing the break button - keeping your finger on it will cause you to spin out of control. There are some power ups in the level. These are a speed boost, invincibilty, so you don't get hurt when you crash into certain obstacles and springs which you can use to jump round corners. Each character also has a special skill which they can use once they obtain two rings. Push up to use it. Sonic has a speed boost, Tails has a jump, Amy throws hearts which will slow your rivals down for a bit if someone crashes into them, and Eggman will drop bombs.

There is literally no difficulty, once you spend five seconds tops to figure out the best way to drift, you'll be able to beat this game without even trying.

The graphics are bad. It's all just lines and, they don't affect me personally, but I imagine a lot of people could get headaches or motion sickness from it. Sound is also bad, the only notable track is the invincibility tune, which remixes Toot Toot Sonic Warrior ~ You Can Do Anything from Sonic CD (Or Green HillS from the 8-bit Sonic 2 if you prefer)

For an old hand held racer, it's all right. There is a small amount of fun to be had. It's something to do when you're bored. Since you can only play it on Adventure DX and Mega Collection Plus, if you don't like it, those games will have other things to keep you occupied.
