Two great Sonic games in a year, hopefully Sega will keep this up.
The gameplay is fun, if you liked the daytime levels in "Unleashed", you're gonna love this game, it's fast and the level design is excellent, some levels are more frustrating than others and there were some instances where I cursed up a storm, but it's all manageable in the end. Different this time around, is that you have to go through 6 acts and then defeat a boss, but some levels are really short, it should take you around 4 hours to finish the game depending on your skill and how much you want to search for the red coins, so a pretty short game. Also different here, is that when you do get 100 rings, you don't get an extra life, there are extra lifes hidden in the levels, but they're very sparse, your best bet would be to obtain an A ranking or higher to get more lives, easier said than done, but early on you're sure to get a few A's. The wisps and the powers they give you are pretty cool, though some are a lot more useful and easier to use than others, didn't get the hang of the "laser power" until the end credits, speaking of which, it's one of those where you run and jump and do your thing while the credits roll, the credits last longer than any of the levels, it felt like 10+ minutes. The bosses were okay, but nothing terribly special, one thing I missed was an epic final battle, remember the fight with Perfect Dark Gaia in "Unleashed"?, not the best battle ever in itself, but made awesome through the music, the music here is fine BTW and the game looks great.
Sonic fans are gonna love it, I'm still waiting for that one Sonic game that'll really blow us all away, this is a great game to be sure though, the length is a problem, so you'll have to decide how big of a Sonic fan you are, a casual fan should probably opt for a rental instead of a purchase, but for all of us who have been waiting for the best 3D Sonic game, here it is.
