Sonic Colors Review
Just when I thought Sonic games were going to keep going downhill over time, I was wrong. Ever since the announcement of Sonic 4, I knew Sega/Sonic Team was up to something. Then Sonic Colors was announced. At first, I did not mind it; I thought it would be another 3D Sonic game. I hoped it did not fail. However, as the months rolled by, the game was looking surprising good. I knew it would be a hit. Sure enough, it was.
So let me start off:

Story (spoilers): Sonic and Tails venture into Eggman's (Dr. Robotnik) Space amusement park. Just when they thought it would be a normal park adventure, it was not. Sonic and Tails soon found out what Eggman was doing; he was capturing little aliens called "Wisps" that had special powers; he was planning to use those powers for a mind-controlling device; he captured their planets and chained them to the Space Amusement Park. Sonic and Tails decided to stop Eggman's plan once again…

Gameplay: In recent 3D Sonic games, the gameplay has not been too good. However, in this game, it is much more improved. It feels just right. The game switches from 3D perspective to 2D perspective gameplay; it was done just right. Although, I had some trouble getting used to it at first, it was not too bad afterwards. The controls were simple: you jump and home-attack, slide, and boost. It kind of reminds me of Sonic Rush/Adventure. The boost is only done once you collect "normal" Wisps; you can use boost to attack enemies/etc. Throughout the levels, you will encounter different Wisps, each having certain abilities to help Sonic out through the levels. I found them pretty fun to use. They were very well done. For example, there is a "Laser" Wisp that allows Sonic to bounce off walls and diamonds at fast speeds. The level design is great, although on some parts of the levels, I experienced some cheap deaths, but it isn't too bad once you get used to it. It can be very challenging. Some parts remind me of Crash Bandicoot games on PlayStation 1. One other thing I did find a little bad was the boss fights, they were good but as you play them, they can get repetitive and boring. Not all the boss fights are bad, though. There is also the Sonic Simulator. I didn't get to do much on it, but it looks good. I like how you can use your Miis on it. Overall, the gameplay should be fun to enjoy.

Graphics: This game is beautiful. I love the graphics. It has a cartoony feel to it, but it is very polished and cool.

Music: The music in this game is fantastic! I love the tunes like on Sweet Mountain and Planet Wisp. It was very well done and creative. Some tracks do remind me of Super Mario Galaxy music, though…

Fun Factor/Replay Value: This game definitely has a good replay value. The creative level designs and music should keep you coming back for more. The story is a bit short, depending on how you play but once you beat the game, then you have to collect all the "red stars" and get the best ranks on each level. Thanks to this game using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connections, you can upload your scores and times to the internet, making the game last longe. Although, I do not care for leaderboards in general, it is still a good addition.

Bottomline: This game is a must-have if you are a true Sonic Fan. Sonic has been through some rough times lately and people have been bashing him over and over again but I believe this and Sonic 4 are great comebacks to the series. The storyline was great; some people may think it is kiddy, but I believe it is just right; it is way better than having another game using a serious storyline and being mature all the time. This game reminds me a lot of Super Mario Galaxy and the Crash Bandicoot games. I recommend this game all the way! It will be a blast to you! Go Sonic!
