A promising game hides behind awful controls and lame stage obstacles.

I saw the decent review the game received from multiple critics, so as a huge fan of Sonic (before his streak of lousy games) I decided to purchase this game. Now I can't do anything but ask why I was so deceived.

Graphics: The graphics are smooth, though a lot of areas call for improvement. The camera angle is god awful for simple reasons. One of them is that when you are racing through an area at full speed, an obstacle will pop out far too quickly for you to do anything but run into it.

Gameplay: The game consists of the usual sonic platform: running through stages, avoiding obstacles and defeating cartoon-ish enemies along the way. This game is somewhat different though, for there are more obstacles than usually found in sonic games which take more time to solve and avoid, thus slowing down the pace of the game. This should NOT happen in ANY Sonic game.

While playing the game, you will eventually have to accept that you will not complete any level without having to start over at least once. There's almost no chance that you will complete a level without failure at some point. That is another aspect that makes this game a great frustration.

Controls: The controls are the worst I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. You are forced to control Sonic's movements strictly by the angle at which you hold the Wii remote. There is no method to slow down, if you want to reduce your speed at which you run you have to stop completely by tilting the Wii remote back, which will usually cause you to walk backwards as well.

Sega, did you ever stop to think that maybe the use of the nunchuck's control stick would have been more practical?

Another problem lies with the stages, which pose no other purpose than giving the player something else to do. There is no reason behind racing Uhu to the goal, or completing a random level without dying, or defeating 20 enemies to complete the level, only that you have to complete them to move on.

The bottom line is that this game is definitely a step in the right direction, but there are many, many bugs that need to be worked out. It just didn't feel like a real sonic game to me, and should not be purchased without first renting it. Ta ta.
