Missed out on All-Stars Racing? This is your chance to pick up one of the best kart-racing games for this generation

User Rating: 8 | Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed PS3
The last time I've played a good karting game was Crash Team Racing on the Playstation and over those years it's been quite tricky finding a good karting game that can be fun and addicting at the same time. With the success of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing which was released back in 2010, they released a sequel called Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed which is in fact released on almost every system expect for PSP and DS.

There is no main story plot all you're doing is racing across other race tracks from a line-up of stages from games that most people have played if you owned a Sega Genesis/MegaDrive in the 90's and 80's. Not only that you get to play your favourite Sega characters like Sonic, Tails, Beat, Ulala and Alex Kidd, you can also play as Wreck-It Ralph as a bonus character in the game to begin with.

Gameplay: Like most racing games using the R2 to accelerate, and the L2 to brake, if you see any pickups you can use them as weapons against other racers or use boost by pressing X. You can use drift around turns and corners by using the left analog stick going left and right and holding down L2 while accelerating, while going over jumps or ramps you can do barrel roll while you're in the air if you move the right analog stick at any direction.

In Transformed your vehicle can now turn into a speedboat or jet-plane if you're in water your vehicle turns into a speedboat, if you're in the air your vehicle will turn into a jet-plane. On World Tour there are at least 3 laps when it comes to races, but there are other challenges to take like Drift Challenge, Versus Battle, Boost Challenge and Tank Battles. Time Trails are also added if you want to try and beat other ghosts online when playing through various levels and of course it wouldn't be the same if they didn't have Grand Prix in.

Graphics and Sound: I do like the line-up of racers being added from various Sega games but I reckon they'll have DLC characters in the future if it does happen. With over 25 tracks and arenas its quite a lot for a racing game and most of the levels are from classic Sega games like Super Monkey Ball, Billy Hatcher, Panzer Dragoon and Death Egg. The graphics really do shine when it comes to the level environments and characters when it comes to racing, some tracks you'll have random objects or minions walking around the middle of the race track.

With it being a racing there are no camera problems or issues on this one since it's a racing game. You've still got the same voices from most Sega games like the sonic series, and the game announcer sounds a little to the one you hear in fighting games. I really do like the soundtrack for All-Stars Racing Transformed with a mix of arcade music and re-mixes from other retro games as well.

Overall: There is multiplayer both offline and online from up to 2-10 players which can be really fun to play, but it depends on how many people are playing it at the same time, it's more fun when there's more players playing this. Trophy support is added along with stickers which are more like achievements for doing various tasks and missions, collecting over 200 stars and unlock almost everything will be a challenge if you want to unlock everything. If you've missed out on the original All-Stars Racing, Transformed is worth the purchase for any Sega fan or racing fan for their collection.
