It's a good game, but nothing too special

Sniper Elite V2 strikes me as a game that does a pretty good job of appealing to a niche of fans, akin to a Sonic the Hedgehog game. Perhaps out there, there are a group of people hungering for a sniping game that includes tripwires, binocular-scoping, careful positioning, etc (akin to Enemy at the Gates).

And it's pretty cool. The kill cam is gory and satisfying, and the long distance head shots are nothing short of breathtaking. Using one shot to take out two soldiers at once? Amazing!

This game as a whole, however, will not do any more than meet a bare minimal requisite for being 'decent'. Outside of the niche, the game will appear arcade-like and nothing special. It is essentially just another shoot-em-up that gets dull after a while. Unless you really try to forcefully immerse yourself into the game, you won't be drawn in at all.

Good games can be enjoyed; great games will -make- you enjoy them. All in all, I'm glad I played this game with my brother (he's a sniping nut, and watching him get hundreds of headshots was endlessly entertaining). On an objective level, however, I really can't recommend this game to too many people, especially considering the full fledged price. It's a good game to be sure, but the arcade-style, shallow-story, atmosphere doesn't make it anything more than a short, semi-forgettable (albeit enjoyable) click-ta-kill shooter.
