A contrast from The first Sly, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

User Rating: 8.5 | Sly 2: Band of Thieves PS2
Sly 2, I remember way back when I got this game. It was my introduction to Sly, and was good enough to make me a fan of the series. Though it differs from the first Sly, it has its own style and spunk that makes it good.

Gameplay 9.5/10
Sly 2 blends together several different gameplay styles. With each character, you have to adjust the way you play. Sly's main focus is on agility and stealth, Murray's focus is on Combat and smashing stuff, and Bentley's focus is on Platforming and the occasional vehicle. There are also several Vehicles that act as minigames, such as the RC chopper providing an Areial assault/Vertical shooter style, Bentley's hacking avatar, providing an overhead shooter style, and the turret, providing a first person shooting style. It's moderatly difficult, with nothing too hard, but nothing too easy either. My one complaint is that the buttons sometimes seem to not work, as if they were sticking, but it's very rare and is only a minor flaw. In short what you will face in this game is stealth challenges, an occasional vehicle segment, a few combat challenges, and many more things, all juggled so you won't know what to expect sometimes. It's a good formula that keeps you intrested, never focusing too much on a particular element, so nothing ever feels repetitive. It's no wonder they used the same basic formula for Sly 3, it works great.

Plot 8.5/10
Clockwerk has returned. In parts, yes, but the threat is real. Upon trying to steal the Clockwerk parts so they can be destroyed, Sly learns the parts have already been taken! What's worse, Carmilitia blames him! Sly learns from Carmilita's new partner, Constable Neyla, that the Klaww gang actually has the parts. Sly, Bentley, and Murray then set off to find the Clockwerk parts in order to save the world and clear Sly's name!

Music 8/10
Though most of the music in this game is quite unremarkable, there are a few catchy tunes, such as Dimitri's theme and the Main theme. I'm not about to penalize this game just because it's tunes aren't great, but I really do wish Sucker Punch would try harder to make tunes that are both fitting and catchy.

Overall 8.5/10
Sly 2's innovative gameplay and solid plot make for a unique combination not found in most other games, and Sly 2 may possibly be the best game in the series, even if only by a little. Sly 2 is definetely a game worth picking up if you have a PS2.

RECAP:
Good: Unique gameplay, Strong plot
Bad: Most Music is Unremarkable
