A coming-of-age game for skateboarding.

User Rating: 7 | Skate or Die C64
Before Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, actually LONG befor THPS, there was Skate or Die. Tony Hawk has the benefit of having a pretty sizable skate culture. But when Skate or Die came out, skateboarding was still pretty obscure, and hadn't reached the mainstream. Because of that, I consider Skate or Die pretty groundbreaking. Skate or Die allows you to compete in different skateboarding challenges. These events included freestyle ramps, downhill events, races, and the pool joust. The game also offered a two player, head to head mode.

The game featured some notable characters, such as Rodney Recluse, a punk rocker looking guy with a purple mohawk and a seemingly intentional resemblance to Rodney Dangerfield.

All in all, Skate or Die was a pretty succesful game. And since the enjoyment was based on simple gameplay rather than the now dated graphics, it can still be enjoyable.
