Silkroad Online has the potential to be something really great, but lacks inspiration in most of the key areas.
SilkRoad is a fantasy MMORPG based on the cultural and economic trading paths between ancient Asia and Europe of long-lost civilizations.
There is no fixed job in the SilkRoad world. All players can freely promote the growth of their own characters by will, alter the character, and change characters between merchant, burglar and hunter. It is entirely up to you whether you will earn money in the trade, become one wolf which pounces on prey, or become the guardian who protects the peace of SilkRoad.
Graphics
The graphics in this game are really impressive for a 2004 RPG game. From the artistic point of view, characters' armor and weapons look good, and the monsters even better; the environments are big and some landscapes are breathtaking, but most of them are practically empty. From the technical aspect, the game also stands out, since you only need a modest GeForce 4 to make it work smoothly.
Gameplay
The low score on gameplay has a lot of things attached to it. For example, the fact that the game has no existing story, the quests come from characters that suddenly are in need of something. The objectives of the quests are pretty the same all game long: kill x number of monsters or collect y number of things from x monster or very rarely go and give x object to any given character. Also, the majority of in-game texts (which are not many) are poorly traduced.
A thing that some may categorize as a plus, is the fact that there are no "defined" classes, you mold your character as you please. But the skills that you choose from are very few, and all characters end up being almost the same. Another thing is the server issue. They are so crowded with people that you can't connect when you want, you only have a certain period of time to do that.
What is truly unique is the Triangular Conflict, where you can play as a burglar, merchant or hunter. But this is possible since level 20, so you'll feel that the ones before them are a waste of time, and you'd be right.
Sound
Sound effects have a very good quality, but music tends to get very repetitive over time.
Value
What can you complain of? It's completely free! Why not 10? Because in this category also admits how enjoyable it is to play, and this is where server traffic plays against the game.
Tilt
If you are disposed to omit the games roughest edges, you'll probably get a rewarding experience for a long time.
