Silent Hill Origins still has the scares and creepiness, but wasn't neccessary for the series' progression.

Silent Hill Origins takes you back to the famous town of Silent Hill with a good story and much better dialouge. I think it's sad that this was classified as the prequel for the first game. It would've been nice if it was just another Silent Hill game.

In this game you play as ordianry trucker, Travis Grady. He's seemingly normal, except he keeps having strange nightmares that seem mysteriously familliar to him. Travis is driving to a job near Silent Hill when he sees a girl running past his car. Scared he swerves his car, trying to miss the girl. He doesn't hit her, but he sees her running off into the fog. Thinking she must be injured, Travis runs after her into the fog until he arrives at a burning house. Hearing a scream he runs into the house in hope to save the occupant. He finds a child and pulls them out from the house. Passing out, he awakes later in Silent Hill. That's when the gameplay begins and you must find a way to escape the distrubed town and uncover the deep dark secrets of the town.

The weapons in Silent Hill Origins are pretty good. It's fun to watch Travis beat the deformed monsters to death. Here's what you'll be using in the game: Hammer, Scapel, Drip Stand, Portable TV, Alcohol Bottle, Toaster, Typewritter, Jagged Wood, Baton, Meat Hook, Meat Cleaver, Crate, Wrench, Filing Cabinet, Iron Pole, Screwdriver, Razor, Kitchen Knife, Lamp, Poker, Katana, Toolbox, Iron Weights, Broken Pole, Shovel, Light Stand, Spear, Pitchfork, Meat Gaff, Pool Cue, Moon Gaunlets, Great Cleaver, Axe, Target Pistol, Shotgun, Service Pistol, Hunting Rifle, Assault Rifle, Redeemer and Telsa Rifle. As you can see that's a lot of weapons. Like SH4 the creators have tried to make it as survival horror as possible, although fans would probably be a bit annoyed if they excluded firearms from the game.

The creatures in all Silent Hill games vary, because the monsters are figments from the protaganist's mind. If someone had a bad childhood there would probably be demonic children there. Although a big letdown in Silent Hill Origins is that the amount of creatures in this game are very limited. There's Nurses, Carrions, Straight Jackets, Ariels, The Butcher, Twobacks and Caliban. As you can see there's very little creatures in the game, but the alternate costumes make up for that.

Yes it's true in Silent Hill Origins, you can unlock a lot of alternate outfits. Some comedical and others are just plain cool. Below is a list of the names and a quick description of each of them.

Normal Outfit: This is the default outfit. It's basically a truckers cap with a red shirt, brown bodywarmer and blue jeans.

Savior Outfit: This outfit is all black leather and a kind of bikers outfit complete with a wolf on the back of your jacket.

Butcher Outfit: An outfit of bloodied clothes that belonged to a serial killer.

Ambasador Outfit: A skin-tight spacesuit.

Stalker Outfit: A total black outfit meant for stealth missions.

Collector Outfit: A geeky outfit with a blue jacket and white shirt. Travis comes complete with glasses for this outfit too.

Sprinter Outfit: A red sportsman tracksuit with white rims.

Sharpshooter Outfit: A camoflauged outfit complete with camo jeans, camo shirt and a camo baseball cap.

Weaponsmith Outfit: A denim outfit with denim jeans and a jacket. This outfit also has a black bandana.

Brawler Outfit: A mexican skin-tight wrestling catsuit with a purple and blue mask.

Cartographer Outfit: A victorian type outfit complete with half moon glasses.

Firefighter Outfit: A complete local fire department outfit.

Codebreaker Outfit: A halloween costume.

It's fun dressing Travis up, although I never play the game with alternate outfits as I think it looks silly and unrealistic. Although it's satisfying when you get to unlock them.

The atmopshere is great in this game and I think anyone in their right mind will get affraid of this game. Overall it's a surprisingly good game, although the fact that it's set around the same time as the first annoys me. It makes me get distracted when I replay the first game. I always think "I wonder where Travis would be now?". Although despite that it's a great game with powerful graphics and great replay value. It definately gets a thumbs up from me!
