So...I figured I'd try another Silent Hill game, hoping for the series to return to the levels of Silent Hill 2 and 3, after so many truly bad games. At first I was encouraged. The disastrous combat controls of Homecoming were gone, replaced by a better, though not great system, which at least made the game playable. The early levels were sufficiently creepy and were quite interesting. However, by the time I got into the monastary the whole game seemed to slow to a boring repetetive crawl. After an arduous time consuming search for the ladder to get to the balcony for the play special effects, and then a boring puzzle, I just lost any interest in finishing this game. The side quests are time consuming and unnecessary and you do not realize they are unneeded side quest until you finish them and realize "oh..I just got a trinket and wasted an hour." The "other world" sections were just plain annoying and totally unnecessary. On the good side, I thought the creatures were pretty well done. The early locations were interesting and well done too. The game earned an extra point in my book for having one of the best jump scenes since Dead Space and the best jump scene in a Silent Hill game since "Danny" in Silent Hill 3. So, all that being said, the fact that the game turns into yet another Silent Hill let down makes it all the more disappointing. Someone please tell me that this title IS worth finishing because at this point, zzzzzzzzzzz.
