Silent Hill 2 is one of the best in the series, delivering the scares and mystery, but has it's own minor flaws.

User Rating: 8.5 | Silent Hill 2 (Special 2 Disc Set) PS2
The Silent Hill series has to be one of the most popular survival horror series in the genre, if not THE most popular. Any fan of survival horror will have at least heard about the series even if they've never played the original or the later installments for PlayStation 2, etc.

Silent Hill 2 has you playing as James Sunderland, a man who has come to the deserted town of Silent Hill in search of his late wife Mary, a woman who had passed away 3 years ago. James feels a little crazy and sounds a little crazy when he explains that he received a letter from his wife Mary, asking him to return to Silent Hill, to their "special place." However, James doesn't know what place that is, as the whole town of Silent Hill was their "special place."

This is the beginning of the creepy, mysterious and confusing story of Silent Hill 2. Your job is to discover clues in different locations that will possibly lead James to his wife, if she's even in Silent Hill at all. Could Mary really be alive?

You'll have to play to find out.

While Silent Hill 2 is great for the story and gameplay you will find that the graphics are often not the best, even for a game released on the PS2. But what it does not deliver in it's graphics, it certainly makes up for with the story and graphics. As you play through Silent Hill 2 you will find yourself asking more and more questions as you have old ones answered, leaving you ready to move onto the next section of the game to find new answers.

However, Silent Hill 2 does have it's minor flaws and that includes the game length. Even with the exploration factor in mind, you generally are able to find your way around easy and have some sort of clue as to where you need to go in the game, although not always given to your directly. But once again, how fast you progress through an area can depend on what riddle level and action level you have going on for your game when you're playing.

The one thing you may notice, if you look at the big picture, is that while Silent Hill 2 is enjoyable the game altogether is rather short. The story doesn't really allow for the game to be much longer than it already is, but you may end up feeling it was a little short.

If you're able to ignore these minor things then Silent Hill 2 is an excellent game for any fan of the series. The story is surprisingly deep and executed in a manner that leaves you wondering what will be around the next corner in the game, and if the next enemy you encounter will be creepier than the ones you've already seen. Another thing to mention is that Silent Hill 2 has it's own monsters but not so many that you feel overwhelmed by different types or worry about having the proper weapon to fend them off.

Overall if you enjoyed the original or you've played the other games in the series then Silent Hill 2 will be very enjoyable for you and you should pick up a copy of it if you're able to find it for cheap.
