The groundbreaking turn-based strategy game has aged remarkably well.

User Rating: 9.5 | Sid Meier's Civilization PC
Sid Meier's Civilization is a true paragon of turn-based strategy games. It presents a barebones model of exploration, research and development, diplomacy and warfare. There are no frivolous, unnecessary features which creates a very streamlined gameplay. Although a fair amount of micromanagement is required from the player, he is rarely lost in the minutiae and so able to focus on the main task of developing his chosen civilization into a global superpower. Compared with the game's successors, the model used is very simple, nevertheless it captures admirably many important aspects of economics, science and war creating a captivating experience.

It's hard to find faults with the original Civilization, but some might miss multiplayer support and the choice of a civilization to lead is merely cosmetic, there are no differences between them. The vast number of strategies and research ways to choose more than makes up for the limitation though - you will rarely face exactly the same starting conditions or kinds of opponents forcing you (and you enemies) to diversify.

Bottom line: The mother of the "just one more turn" syndrome. A must play for every fan of turn-based strategy gaming!
