I am a huge RPG fan and most of them can be very bright and upbeat, with storylines incredibly similar to something else you've played, others are significantly unique to the norm with too much for you to have to re-adapt yourself to.
Digital devil saga is probably the most realistic to the real world sort of rpg i have EVER played in terms of emotive content. The story is based on war for gain but there is much more to it.
I am speaking as someone who has complete the whole saga (1 & 2). As such i have to persist that if you just play one half of the story, you are seriously short changing yourself as that is not what the makers on the game wanted you to get out of it.
The story is the main reason i gave this game a high score.
Without DDS2 i would probably agree with Gamespots review.
Although by itself the game is great in terms of artwork, gameplay, adaptability and the music is AWESOME!!!
Shoji meguro is one of my favourite composers and he does a great job here
Anyway the game is Fantastic, Story is even better as a SAGA but buy the 2nd one otherwise you'd never know
