Old school RPG strategy with an intense storyline
Gameplay is fairly interesting, though there isn't alot of difference between this and the many Shin Megami Tensei titles. The most interesting aspect is the ability to fuse your demons into new and stronger ones, carrying over their abilities. Each demon you encounter has strengths and weakness which you need to expoit in order to gain an extra attack. Your demons gain experience along with you, allowing them to learn stronger abilities. You can also purchase known demons from the auction house.
The graphics are fairly good. Much of the dialogue is delivered with cutout drawings of the characters, and you are given a choice over which line of dialogue to select, which will sometimes change the story. I found the game very interesting in the beginning, as everything changes from a typical day to an apocalyptic scenario, but less so near the end the story. There are a number of very difficult bosses in the game, which often requires grinding through "free battles" in an effort to level up your demons and/or fuse them into stronger ones.
The game is definitely not a weak title, and can be a lot of fun, but in many ways it's a rehash of much that has come before it. If you're looking for a old school strategy RPG title with an interesting storyline to spend hours and hours on, this is probably your game. If you're looking for something new and fresh, you're probably better of investing your time in one of the mainstream Shin Megami Tensei titles like Persona 3 or 4.
