You can set the difficulty level to whatever you can handle.
The game has a fun little sci-fi/action story to tracker-beam you in. It's downright awesome to upgrade your character as you go along. Not to mention fi you so choose there are a variety of puzzles for those that choose to attempt harder master challenges without upgrading your character.
And don't forget there is plenty of reasons to continue playing after you've completed your first play through.
If you liked games like Metroid or Mega Man back in the day or Metal Slug type shooters more recently - this has some of that mixed in. But it is a bit more serious.
You're best option is always to play the demo and you should get a great idea of what it has to offer, my bet is you'll be coming back for more!
