The Gamespot review had me scratching my head... This is an awesome remake!

I didn't come across a single bug myself, and the visuals are a BIG upgrade over the original. Mostly, the gameplay is the same as it ever was in Serious Sam, which is to say awesome. The enemies are varied, interesting, and in many cases, downright hysterical. The most important thing is that the frenetic, breathless gameplay has held up marvelously and this title is a must buy for old-school shooter fans.

I suppose the argument can be made that the original did all of this and that SS HD is simply a fresh coat of paint on an old game, but if the gameplay was perfect to begin with, why mess with it? I for one thoroughly enjoyed this great shooter that hearkens back to the heyday of shooters. Sometimes all you want to do is check your brain at the door and shoot at stuff. This game fits the bill perfectly; it's almost a cathartic state of zen you will reach in mowing down wave after wave of enemies, and at the end you will feel both drained and entertained.
