Alluring World of Wolvesvale

User Rating: 8.5 | Sang-Froid: Tales of Werewolves PC
To be terse, this game pits you against evil wolves and werewolves in the defense of yourself and property.

The art in this game is colorful and vibrant. As the full moons give birth to the silhouettes of trees around the village of Wolvesvale, many gamers will likely feel a hint of that creepy feeling that one might have really felt centuries ago in the bitterly cold, and desolate woods of Canada.

This game conjures some spooky feelings. You are given the feeling of solitude and the danger that is associated with it. You realize that an evil is lurking around, often times this malevolence is unseen, but the sounds reveal their very real existence.

Solid planning is required to defend your turf. An overhead map will allow you to examine the creatures, and paths that they will take to you. After the traps are set, it's entirely up to you, and your personal weapons to finish the job.

The dreaded wolf is frightening enough, but the sound of a werewolf will really give you cause for alarm. Knowing that the bone-chilling sound you just heard is the call of the beast that has its sights set on you, is enough to make you hope that your traps, nets and bonfires are enough to allow you and your weapons (some blessed) to hold off this beast. Unfortunately, one werewolf will not be your only concern; he has companions - many of them!

Aside from the primal feelings that this game conjures, there are some nice features. You can buy different weapons, have some blessed (including bullets), and you can develop special perks with a sprawling tech tree. The fear system is a nice factor to use in your equation of keeping the beasts at bay, in order to give yourself the time needed for additional preparation towards holding off these menacing packs. The play is simple, yet lots of fun. You can scream to intimidate wolves in your immediate area, and lure lurking werewolves in the intermediate area to a spot you have booby trapped just for the cunning beast or beasts.

This game's greatest strength is the power of the lore in which it's based. The ancient beast, the blood-thirsty werewolf and the creature from which it spawns - the wolf, dance around you through the chilly nights. They dance in wait for the moment to pounce on you, and end their performance by the letting of your blood. As you fight for your life, the Irish-sounding fiddle plays intensely through the night. You yourself become the lone wolf in your fight for survival.
