Alien Force

This is another of my favorate games for the NES from one of my favorate video game series "Gradius" let alone the first shooter I've ever played. There's not much to say about the game it's practically similar to it's predecessor "Gradius" since the gameplay is practically the same which is fine by me if it's not broke don't fix it. However I feel this game surpasses it's predecessor by all of the little additions that make it a whole lot better.

For one thing better selection on weapons and power ups, one favorate of mine is the famous ring lazer which at first might seem a bit daft but trust me it's pritty damn cool due to how strong it it. There is some great level design I really love how they designed the alien world giving it a strange surreal organic feel to it as if the whole alien world is alive and just makes me wonder more what's ahead, let alone the fact it's litterally designed to kill you.

Bosses where in the last game there weren't any, ok yes there were but they were more like tough obsticles to get though which is why I never found them particularly memorable. But in this game they are and there rather intimidating, one look at them will make you nervious three of the ones I always liked fighting were an alien brain, a dragon, but most of all the alien snake.

There are two types of shooting gameplay from side view to overhead view which is great because it gives the game variaty so things aren't boreing or too predictable; it's a shame they couldn't of retained this dynamic in the latter games which was always something I missed. And the music is fantastic, it has some of the most memorable video game tracks that have been remixed today.

But I won't lie to you this game is hard, ah man is it hard. I remember when I was a kid I wasn't very good at this game or shooters in genernal at the time at least not until I was a teenage when I became an ace, but you know something that a great feeling. But don't fret this game is beatable, it's just going to take a lot of practice is all, each of the obsticles are a step ahead of you you have little time to antisipate or decide what to do next which is why it can be easy to misstep, so you can't expect to get it right on the first try. And that what I usually died from in this game not so much just the obsticles but a simple misstep that I could of easily avoided. But as I said it's beatable like in all shooters it's a matter of preserverence, if you stick with it long enough you'll know where to go and what you need to do the next time you play. I can't gurentee you won't die but at least you won't die as much and your chances of winning get stronger.

Life Force has a strong life span even today.
