A game too far for the saints row franchise

User Rating: 4 | Saints Row IV PC
Saints Row has always been an over the top, tongue in cheek title that put the emphasis firmly on fun. This time however the devs have completely missed the mark. Maybe it's simply a game too far for the saints row franchise but the feeling is there that the ideas have just dried up.

All efforts to create an immersive experience have been abandoned as right at the start the player is thrust into a virtual reality from which he / she must try to escape....by aliens. It reminds me of that disasterous Dallas episode when some of the cast were abducted by aliens. As you may guess it was widely panned as a joke and honestly, this games storyline deserves the same treatment; not to mention the characters blossoming super-powers. Give me a break. If I wanted to play frigging superman I would play frigging superman.

Anyway. The graphics are pretty standard for the genre, nothing special but nothing bad either. The music, as always consists of some classic tunes from different styles which fit with the game very well. Character creation for me has taken a step or two backwards from SR 3rd with models ending up as various degrees of ugly and the animations could use a little work but nothing absolutely terrible.

If you don't mind a game with zero immersion and you are a die hard SR fan then you will enjoy this game. Otherwise then wait until the price drops considerably before you buy.
