Rocket Robot On Wheels Is One Of The Most Underated Games Of All Time.

ROCKET ROBOT ON WHEELS IS THE BEST PLATFORMER GAME OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just love this game to death.

On November 17, 1999, Rocket: Robot on Wheels was released by Sucker Punch. However, this brilliant little gem would soon venture into the abyss of forgotten games. Rocket: Robot on Wheels is a platforming game, and an excellent one to boot, as you'll see in this review. The setting is an intergalactic space carnival called Whoopie World. Jo Jo, one of the park mascots, tries desperately to ruin Whoopie World, whilst discrediting Whoopie the Walrus. Stealing all of the tickets and tokens, Jo Jo scatters them across Whoopie World, in a vain attempt to be the sole mascot of the theme park. However, one robot stands in the way: Rocket. Rocket's job is to foil Jo Jo's plan and save Whoopie World. The problem with the story is that there are no developments. The main goal is to get rid of Jo Jo, and that main goal stays until you beat the game. No plot-twists, no sidequests, you do what you have to do get rid of that conniving raccoon. The premise is good, but they should have continued to further the progress in-depth in order to maintain interest. Gameplay : The gameplay is fantastic. With a world that boasts 7 levels, you can take your favorite one-wheeled tractor beam friend all over! The levels are fantastic, with many different themes that you would find in an amusement park. One amazing part of this game is the fantastic physics engine that rivals some the engine of some platformers of today's day and age. Collecting each ticket is fun, rather than monotonous and frustrating, as some other games tend to be. If you collect many Tinker Tokens, Tinker will give you new upgrades, each and everyone of them having a fun use. With vehicles in each level, and all sorts of comic humor, I'm proud to give this game what it deserves: Ten out of ten. Graphics : The graphics aren't state-of-the-art, but they are very impressive. With each world having a certain visual appeal to the eyes, you can tell that a lot of work went into designing this part. My only problem is the occasional lapses in camera, when we see the black abyss of nothingness, so common in many past and present platformers. Nit-picky details, but annoying all the same. Sound : If you don't think the game looks good, fine. If you've played the game and think it sucks, hey, more power to you. But if you don't like the music in this game, you will receive a talking-to from me. A groovy jazz soundtrack awaits you with each course you go to, and each tune will have you dancing all over. Each track fits the mood of the course, and the rhythm makes you want to get up and dance. The sound effects are okay, I suppose. No really big problems, but they aren't quality sounds, namely, Kefka's laugh. Each one fits the atmosphere, but they aren't groundbreaking. Good Prize! *Ding* With over 1000 tinker tokens, and over 150 tickets, the game's replay value is superb. One main part that boosts the score for this is the vehicles. I must have spent at least a day all told screwing around with each of these things. Flying with the jet bike is one of the coolest things ever. Buy or Rent: Although you could probably rent it if you wanted to, I highly recommend you buy it. It took me a month or so to beat it COMPLETELY, and that was without cheats. A fabulous under-rated game, Rocket was one of my top games in my collection. Major kudos to Sucker Punch for creating one hell of a knockout game. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
