Tired of playing the same old songs? Rock Band 3 has some new stuff for you!
Rock Band 3 has one differential compared to its predecessors: a keyboard control. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to test it, so I can't give much of a feedback about that one. Leaving that aside, the game itself looks pretty neat. You can immediately notice that the graphics have been greatly improved, either for the characters as for the backgrounds. There are far more options for you to personalize your characters. Not only hair styles and outfits, but you can also adjust their faces as you see fit, which is pretty cool for people who like to spend more time assembling their own band.
The gameplay hasn't changed since the first games: press the buttons as they reach the bottom of the display. The more buttons you press correctly, the better is your score. One brand new feature implemented in the game is the scoring system. There is still the traditional "get more points as you get the notes right" system, but there are also different goals in the Story Mode. Some of them assure that you'll get points as you streak more notes or deploy more times. You get some of them by filling a bar as you streak the correct notes. Stuff like that.
Speaking of the Story Mode, in spite of it being rather short, it is also pretty cool. It follows the same style of LEGO: Rock Band: you make your own band and go through tours around the world as you play some setlists. Additionally, the game made it easier to track your goals and progress, once again in the best of LEGO: Rock Band style. Too bad that the World Tour mode has been removed from the game. On the other hand, it will take you quite a while to get all the trophies/achievements if you are a completionist.
Those who enjoy singing rather than playing the instruments, there is another new feature: being able to sing with more than one player.
And for those who are able to afford, there is also the "professional" mode, in which the game teaches you the basics of playing a real guitar.
So, to sum it all up, this game is pretty neat for Rock Band fans. As for me... well, let's just say that, for now, I'm pretty happy with this game, but not exactly looking forward for the next one.
