Nostalgia's not as much as it could be

I remember playing Defender of the Crown on my brother's C64 and enjoying it 20 years ago. Unfortunately, it hasn't kept up with the times as well as I have.

DoC tries to do both strategy and swordplay and does neither very well, especially given the competition out there. For swordplay, I'll do Fable, for strategy I turn to the Total War series.

The inability to turn the storyline off is a bother as well. I can deal with Robin Hood being the main character, but all the yakking drags the game down.

I didn't finish the game, didn't even come close. I got so bored I switched to Tetris.
