The Powerpuff Girls: Bad Mojo Review

Even diehard fans will want to steer clear of this one.

Professor Utonium has been captured by Mojo Jojo, a superintelligent monkey that has grown to monstrous proportions. It's up to the Powerpuff Girls to stop this conniving chimp's opprobrious operation. To combat the menace, the famous preteen fighters have at their disposal the following list of superpowers: several jerky animations; a single, short musical loop; homogeneous character abilities; and a boatload of repetitive gameplay. These may not be the most impressive abilities, but it hardly matters, since Bubbles, Buttercup, and Blossom spend most of their time in suburbia fighting flying, bullet-spewing hams--hardly the most intimidating adversaries. To suggest that hams are the sole enemies in the game would be a breach of journalistic ethics, however. There are also sausage links. Regardless, forcing players to battle through culinary apparitions, in lieu of decent baddies, just isn't kosher.

Even more appalling is that all three Powerpuff Girls play exactly the same. While everyone who's ever listened to the show's intro music knows that "Buttercup, she is the strongest a-fighta," Macrospace seems to be unaware. Each of the lovely ladies shoots the same anemic laser beam at her honey-baked foes, unless she gets one of game's few weapon upgrades.

Even diehard fans will want to steer clear of this one.
