What is it with Indie games and bad game engines?

Every so often I am at my girlfriends house and I have to use a low-end PC. So with that in mind I have a few games on this PC which 'look' like low end games. So I start playing Reus, all looks well. But it starts to lag pretty bad. I check out taskmanager and it tells me this game is using up 1 GB of ram and my CPU (duo-core 1.8 Ghz) is 100%. I mean come on, I am able to play half-life 2, battlefield 2, warcraft 3 and so on, but I can't play a 2D game with no graphics to show for what so ever? You pay for a game that is obviously not a graphic based game, you at least expect it to run on a PC around 3 years old. And to make it worst, I can't adjust the graphics in any way except the resolution. Now I'm stuck with a game that looks as if it's made in 1998 and plays as if it's Battlefield 3.

So no, i'm not giving this game a good grade.
