A good start for having a FPS experience on a handheld, but broken online hurts

User Rating: 6.5 | Resistance: America Saigo no Teikou VITA
Resistance: Burning Skies has some of the most mixed reviews i've seen in a long time for a video game. It is either horrible or great, and I think it depends on their mood or hype levels. It is also compared to the console version of Resistance which is not really fair since this is a portable version. My review is based on a few hours of playtime and only one game played online before the servers quit working. Reason why I'm writing a review on only a few hours is because i bought this game for the online mainly, and to play the single player sparingly when the internet is down or whatever.

The dual analog control is really great. I didn't think i would like it since the analogs are so small and I have big hands. The touch screen controls work really well. I haven't messed up by accidentally hit the wrong thing or blowing myself up with a grenade. The back touch screen is used for sprinting and you have to double tap it. It works half of the time for me. It doesn't feel comfortable trying to use it, but i guess it takes getting used to. The aiming seems too slow, even when i put the sensitivity all the way up to max setting.

The graphics are just okay. The guns look great and things look decent up close, but far away the animations seems to take a low frames per second, and its hard to see and zoom in on enemies far away cause they are so small. The environments are sometimes detailed, sometimes not.

The sound is okay. Gun sounds are just average. Voice acting is sometimes kind of bad. I love the orchestra music though.

The single player is good so far. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and it's not too hard so far. The AI is sometimes dumb and just stands there. The first boss didnt even move, just stood there and shot at me. Every time you continue the single player after quitting out, you have to watch the intro and you cannot skip it. so annoying. I didn't buy this game for the single player though, i bought it for having a FPS multiplayer experience on the go, so having any single player is just a bonus to me. If it is short like the reviews say, that wont bother me because i will play it is short sessions.

The online multiplayer is why i bought this game and it does not work. Very Very disappointing. I got in one game when i first got it home and i will review that one session.

It was 4v4 team deathmatch. The game had zero lag issues and it ran great. I was horrible at the start. It was the first time i played the game. Aiming at someone from far away was very hard since they were so small. You get xp from kills or staying alive like you would in CoD. I had a lot of fun and was ready for more, but I could never get back into a game since the servers don't work. Very disappointing on the game developers part to release a game with half the features working. So I am not playing the game until it is resolved because i dont want to beat the game in one day.

I gave this game a 6.5 because I think it is a good start for having a FPS on a handheld console. Once the online issue is resolved i think this will hold me off until another FPS comes out like CoD. This is a game i can play in spurts for single player or online. The low reviews are not fair because they are comparing it to console FPS's or they were so hyped since people are starving for more vita games. 6.5 is not a bad score, it would be higher if it was working. I'd suggest waiting a week before buying it.
